The fluid motion on the Kettler Elyx 3 elliptical crosstrainer and superior quality has garnered it a winner of the Plus X Award for Innovation, Design, and Functionality.
On the console, you get a multi-color backlit Siemens LCD high resolution display that changes color based on the user’s heart rate. For example, the display is in green if the user’s heart rate is in the ideal zone, and changes to blue if the rate drops below the target zone. It will turn red if the rate exceeds the target zone. Data feedback includes time, speed, distance, calories, RPM, pulse rate, and resistance level. This display also shows program hill profiles.

UPDATE: As of 2021 it looks like Kettler is no longer making ellipticals. They used to have at least half a dozen models available for sale on the company website but now there is only one, the RIVO 4, and it's out of stock.

The Kettler Elyx 3 elliptical crosstrainer has a 45-pound magnetic brake drive system, sealed ball bearings in the pivot points, a Poly V drive belt for silent operation, and a high carbon steel frame.
The frictionless Kettler Induktions Brake System offers an amazing 75 levels of resistance ranging from 25 to 400 watts in 5 wt increments. To help the user stay in the correct training zone during a workout, the computer automatically adjusts the resistance levels.
You can use the heart rate monitoring feature by holding onto the contact grips on the handlebars or by attaching the wired Infrared earlobe clip sensors. The Kettler Elyx3 is also compatible with a wireless chest strap transmitter (not included).
The stride length is 20" measured with a straight line, and the stride of the footplate measures 22" along their elliptical path. The “Q” factor which measures the width of the pedal spacing is a low 2.5" for maximum comfort. With the open wheel/rail design, you will need to keep dirt and dust off the rails for best results, but other than that, this is a low-maintenance, high-performance machine.
Typically, Kettler products get rave reviews from consumers and equipment pros for its easy assembly, great heart rate feedback on the console, good stability, high quality construction, and smooth brake mechanism.
The Kettler Elyx 3 elliptical crosstrainer, which sells for $1899, is no exception: it is a quality unit for a higher end home gym setting. And while it isn’t fully “club quality,” it will handle heavy-duty workouts quite well.
