UPDATE: Please note some of the models below may be older or discontinued. To read our expert reviews of the latest Octane elliptical trainers just click here.
I purchased the Octane Q37ce elliptical for our home after using one at a friend's home. Yes, they are pricey, but worth it.
I have used other ellipticals at various clubs and the Octane elliptical trainer seems much smoother and has a more natural motion.
Obviously, higher usage and maintenance schedules could be part of the problem with club machines. I highly recommend you demo one of their machines before you choose another.

I wanted to play devils advocate addressing your review of Octane elliptical machines, the Octane Q47 with the selectable stride length in particular. I will offer you a few different perspectives as an avid user. I am a personal trainer and I also sell high end fitness equipment.
I depend on my conditioning for a living; as such I look for the best tool for doing so. I have used any number of elliptical machines and the Octane brand is one of the best I have used to date.
The stride change feature is becoming a standard offered by every brand. I believe Octane is ahead of the curve for what they offer in the stride change option.
The upper body workout on the unit is also better than what is offered on most other models which is going to improve the intensity of your workout if it designed correctly.
The feel is distinct so you will know right away if it is something that you can adapt to. Not everyone will, but I can say from my own experience that many people won't use anything but Octane. Runners who tend to shy away from elliptical machines seem to gravitate to Octanes because it "Feels like you're running."
I like LifeFitness and Precor but I use what gives me the biggest caloric burn for my time invested on the machine. The Octane gives me more ways to train than any other model in a very effective manner.
So anyone interested should look into the brand. A competent salesman should be able to show you the pros and cons of the model considering what is important to you. Octane elliptical machines are not for everyone but some people will love them.

I bought my Q37ce model a month ago after trying 4 different brands at the fitness store.
Other brands had a strange, unnatural feel to the stride and the arm motion was weird, too. Plus, I could not pedal the other machines without lifting my feet off the pedals. In addition, my space is limited at home, and the machine fits very well into a room with a low ceiling.
I have a baby and the quiet motion of the pedals doesn't disturb her when she's napping. I simply love my Octane Q37ce ellipitcal and think I got a great deal on it!!!
To others who read your review....please give Octane elliptical trainers serious consideration. I have zero complaints about mine.
