The Smooth CE 2.5 elliptical is another new model, compact elliptical machine for 2013. A lifetime frame warranty with three years for parts and electronics and a year for in-home labor are typical for Smooth Fitness.
The Smooth CE 2.5 has an easy to read, backlit LCD screen that tracks time, distance, speed, pulse and resistance to keep you motivated. Everyone who uses the Smooth CE 2.5 elliptical seems to agree that the rear wheel drive, which gives you an incredibly smooth glide, is a great idea that highlights the innovative design. There are no rollers and you won't miss them. Reviewers note that this is another CE elliptical that's relatively compact, like the Smooth CE 3.0XL compact elliptical.
This model has a lower price point which appeals to some, but others complain that the stationary foot pedals aren’t as comfortable as the pivoting pedals found on other Smooth ellipticals. Also missing are the adjustable stride and a few of the programs not included on this model. But at $899 on sale, some users say in their reviews that the 16 available programs are more than enough, especially since the CE 2.5 has 24 levels of resistance.
There's some give and take with this compact elliptical. This model lists at $1700 but generally sells for about $899. Keep in mind that Smooth Fitness doesn't charge shipping, so you really are getting a lot of machine for a low price. What you may discover, however, is that the 275 pound weight limit isn't as high as you can find on other models. The LCD screen is fine, but it's definitely scaled down to the bare essentials.
If you plan on using the Smooth CE 2.5 elliptical yourself and feel that the 19" stride is appropriate for your use, then this is definitely a contender. If you prefer an elliptical machine with a bit more versatility, consider trying out the CE 3.0XT, which offers more programs, an adjustable stride and an upgraded console screen for just a few hundred dollars more.
