The Word on the Street

Stamina 1772 Console

The Stamina 1772 elliptical has adjustable tension with a simple turn of the knob located on the main post just under the console.

It offers forward and reverse pedaling motion, push-pull dual-action handlebars, a 14" stride length, and fingertip heart rate sensors on the stationary grips.

One item that stands out is the 250-lb user capacity, which most equipment pros feel is overstated. This model should not be used by anyone over 170 to 175 pounds.

Unfortunately, there are some terrible reviews on the Stamina 1772 model. It is a noisy elliptical trainer that wobbles when ridden, and the calorie counter gives only an estimate and nothing that should be relied on if you keep calorie burn stats.

The worst part is the 90-day parts warranty, which is about long enough before the shaft on the pedal strips and renders the machine useless.

With limited use each week, it might work well for a lightweight person as long as the TLC (tender loving care) maintenance is performed regularly to tighten bolts at the arms and pedals.

Our Thoughts

The Stamina 1772 elliptical trainer is the (EXACT) same model as the 1773, 55-1773, 773, or what is simply called the Stamina Magnetic Crosstrainer.

It is priced at $299 at Amazon and other online retailers, which saves you $100 over the $399 price you would have to pay at Stamina’s official website.

But fair warning: any $300 elliptical is going to be a headache; there just isn’t much wiggle room for the manufacturer to use decent parts and still make some profit. If you can spend a little more, try the Horizon EX-59 on sale for $649.
